What did we do in class today?
  •  We started a new unit today: Struggle for Statehood.
  • This is going to be a short unit and we will have a quiz on it in about 10 days. 
  • Today students created their cover sheet where they will write down each of the assignments that goes in their packet. 
  • They took a pretest to see what they already know.
  • At the end, they began writing down their vocabulary for this unit.

What did we do today?
  •   Students used information from the pioneer journals to create a historical head of a pioneer youth.  They drew/wrote 5 thoughts that would have been going through the mind of a pioneer youth.
  • We talked about the living conditions in the Salt Lake Valley.
  • I then explained the way Salt Lake City was organized and laid out using the grid system.  I explained how the grid systems works. It was designed after Nauvoo, Illinois.
  • We ended by explaining an upcoming project they are doing next week where they will create their own pioneer settlement.  It will be due next Wednesday.

What did we do today?
  • Students drew the map of the land ownership in the West during the 1840s.
  • Students drew the route of the Mormon Pioneers to Utah.
  • We then talked briefly about the Mormon Battalion.
  • Students were then given a few pages with excerpts from journals of Mormon pioneer youth. Students read through the journals in preparation for the next day.
HOMEWORK: Study for 30 minutes from their packet.

  •  We did a Stretch and Reteach activity in class today.  Students who did not pass the Explorer and Mountain Men test were retaught today while the others watched a movie about the mountain men.

  •   We finished the Anticipation Guide.
  • Then students got a brief start on a worksheet titled "Misunderstandings and Conflict."  That is the 4th assignment in their packet.  We will finish this in class on Thursday/Friday.
