  •  We took a pretest for the new unit on pioneers.
  • Students created their cover sheet and wrote down the learning targets for the unit.
  • We started writing down the vocabulary for this unit also.
HOMEWORK: Photograph Analysis assignment - Students received a worksheet with a photograph of pioneers on it.  They analyze the picture and tell me about the people in the picture, describe objects in the picture and explain activities going on in the picture. There are other questions also on the worksheet but they are self explanatory.

What did we do in class today?
  •  Students completed the primary source analysis worksheet.
  • Then they turned in their Explorer and Mountain Men packet.  It contained 4 assignments.
  • We ended the class by taking the quiz for this unit.

  •  Students finished their gallery walk of Utah Explorers. 
  • Next the students participated in their own rendezvous.  They had a lot of fun.

  •     We briefly discussed the attack on Pearl Harbor 70 years ago today.
  • Then students divided into their groups and completed their posters about explorers. 
  • We began the gallery walk and will finish it on Thursday/Friday.
HOMEWORK: Students received a front and back article about John Wesley Powell.  They need to read it all and then answer the questions on the other white piece of paper. 


 
What did we do in class today?
  •  I introduced a little group project called a gallery walk in which students will create posters about explorers that came to Utah.
  • We did an example together about Dominguez and Escalante and then students started to work on their own explorer.
4th PERIOD:  For the two powerpoints you need, scroll down just a little to where it says "Thursday/Friday."  It has the two powerpoints you need there.
