  • We complete the Mountains and Fault Lines worksheet and reviewed the three different types of mountains and faults.
  • We discussed the homework assignment which is an emergency preparedness plan.
  • At the end of class we watched a movie about erosion and how it changes the landscape of our state.

  • We review what the word chronological means.
  • They read about mountains and plateaus in their textbook to build their scheme.

  • We had POD meetings for the first 20 minutes of each class.
  • We watched a video about Lake Bonneville.
  • Then we discussed the importance of placing things in chronological order. 
HOMEWORK:  Each student needs to finish listing 8 events from their independent reading book in chronological order.

  • Students created a timeline of Utah's geological development. 
  • The directions on the worksheet explain what you are supposed to do. The timeline needs to be colored as well.

What did we do today?
  • We finished their geology web search.
HOMEWORK: Write a complete sentence for each of their geology vocabulary words.  They are doing this for two reasons: 1. To check their understanding of the word and  2. Check their grammar.    

I will be going to a Teacher Conference in Salt Lake City  for the next 3 days.  Therefore, I will be updating the blog next week.

  • We handed in their Geography Packet.  It is 4 worksheets that we did in class during the geography unit. 
  1. The Global You - Global Citizen with continents on the back
  2. Catastrophe on the Bulbon River - It is about 3 imaginary countries and the impact our decisions make on others.

  4. The World Around Us - Reflec
  • We started a new unit: Geology.
  • We did an activity called Blow The Roof Off in which the students got an overview of the entire new unit.
  • We started copying down out new vocabulary.

  • We took a pretest for the upcoming geology unit.
  • I explained how to read their Utah Studies text book.
  • They read pages 20-21 in the textbook.
  • We learned about the Rain Shadow Effect and Lake Effect.
  • Students were given the information and requirements for their end of unit project.  We will be working on the project all day tomorrow, it will be their homework that night and is due Thursday/Friday.
